Congress, in its partisan camps, seems to have lost sight of the full range of major issues that threaten the security of our nation, and at times seem blind to the signals of weakness they send to those that wish us harm. A weak economy constrains our strength, and debt held beyond our shores hands a weapon to potential adversaries. Is there nobody in Congress that remembers how Ronald Reagan won the Cold War? He did it by utilizing the strength of the US economy to bankrupt those who, within living memory, wanted to place their missiles in Cuba. Insecure borders, navigable by illegal economic migrants, are an open invitation and an easy path for those who have been trained in more serious and destructive hostile intentions. Securing our borders, our ports and other points of entry is not a party political issue. It is a fundamental requirement in the defense of our nation. A national security strategy that seeks to include environmental, social and other soft issues, whatever their individual merit, steals resources from from our fighting men and women, and creates distractions from the primary purpose of maintaining a strong and robust America. As a member of Congress I pledge to place the highest priority on the defense of our country and the security of our people. |
